Healthy Highway Mascot
Our Granby Gator parked the Gator Wagon in the gym as a symbol to help teach the kids about their bodies. Though the Granby Gator wagon is broken and he needs to save to buy a new one, we are fortunate enough to have our health. We are young. As our bodies represent our cars we are driving we need to remember that this is not a test drive. This is the only car you get to drive for the rest of your life. You need to think about the fuel you put in your tank and how you act as drivers on the highway! Follow the rules of the road and your car will last a lot longer than our Granby Gators!
Warm Up: Fuel Tank
Kids learned to make green light food choices as well as green light character choices as they filled their plates to fuel their tanks with these green light choices. Fill your plate with green and get rid of yellow and red! Great habits!!
Speedway
This game is similar to capture the flag. Fuel your tank with green light character choices. Students quickly caught on that they needed to save each other to be successful and build their team. Together everyone achieves more. They began to value the green light choice of saving a teammate over "winning."
Highway Patrol
Sharks and Minnows turned into Highway Patrol. Students had to yell out a green light choice before their engine was ready to race across the highway. If given a red light by an officer than they turned into an officer for the next round. Last race car standing wins! We talked about the last race car standing and what they had for breakfast that really fueled their tanks? Can we have some please?
Fuel Pump
Students learned to categorize foods through a variety of activities. Fuel pump was their favorite!

Fill Your Plate Challenge
Students needed to race across the gymnasium without getting tagged to get to the fuel station. At the fuel station, they earned one piece of fuel or food and brought it back to their team plate. Every time the students made dinner they earned a point for their team. The course needed to have a protein, veggie, fruit, grain and a dairy to fill each category. No red light foods! If tagged by a red light tagger they needed to stop go the red matts and do 10 green bean leans or 10 wall push ups. Teams could earn points for:
1. Making a full dinner
2. Using their manors
3. Helping someone up
4. Being honest
5. Having the most cards total

Congratulations to Our Green Light Champions
Our Green Light Champions with their trophies! Mrs. Whisman’s 4th grade class and Mr. Tchurekow’s 1st grade class made green light choices to win the race in the cafeteria. They cleaned up after themselves, used their manors, drank water, had at least 1 healthy choice in their lunches each day and were respectful, responsible and safe. Good drivers deserve a red light once in a while. We got to park our cars, take a pit stop and enjoy a make your own sundae ice cream party sponsored by our fabulous PTG. Keep up the good work guys!
