No way! You mean to tell me that white bread is only one piece of the puzzle! In our grain game, we learned that their are three pieces needed to make a whole grain. We learned this through a version of tag where the kids had to use teamwork to make whole grains with the puzzle pieces depicted above and to the left in order to be free again. The germ is the baby plant that is nutrient rich, while the endosperm is just the carbs that the germ feeds off of to flower. The bran is the also fiber rich with vitamins and minerals that protects the seed. We learned that there is whole grain bread, crackers, oatmeal, rice, and a variety of cereals that we all enjoy! Whole grain foods are great choices as they contain all of the pieces of the puzzle!
